WHFC has one of the largest teen Ministries in the area for 6th through 12th graders. The leaders strive to provide a place where teens can critially and honestly explore their faith, evaluate and internalize biblical truths, and experientially learn about the love of Christ for them. They have their own Teen Center, located on the third floor, that is a teen friendly place to hang out and find friends as well as serves as the teen's home base. A ping pong table, foos ball table and carpet ball table plus Wii and Xbox 360 consoles along with state of the art sound system make it a place your teen won't want to leave. |

Kicked off with worship, the teens meet together in the Youth Center for the Elevate Live program. After announcements, led by our own teen comedians, the junior high and senior high split into separate groups. There is some serious study surrounded by fun and games making this the happening place to be on Wednesday night for Junior and Senior Highers.

Each year, the 7th through 12th graders go away for a midwinter retreat in late January or February. In 2010, the youth will return to Stoney Glen Camp in Madison. The midwinter retreat is a opportunity for the brakes to be applied to the busyness of life and focus on what really matters.

This is an evening of dinner and vocal, drama and instrumental entertainment provided by our VERY talented teens. We hope that parents will come and support their teens as well as invite other friends and family to be a part of this dynamic evening. Your teen can help at Dinner Theater in the following ways: serving dinner, valet partking, set up and decorations, clean up and tear down, babysitting and coat check.

In addition to the top notch entertainment, donated items such as tickets to Indians game (box office no less) and gift certificates to restaurants are auctioned off. The monies raised go towards supporting Teen Ministries including reducing the cost of the summer mission trip for the teens.

This annual fund raiser helps the teens earn credit towards paying the cost of WHFC teen activities and have a little water fun. The youth get sponsors to commit to pay so much for every car they wash. The car washes are free to anyone who brings their vehicle(s). The car wash includes a free interior vacuum for anyone who sponsors a teen and brings their coupon. The teens who participate will earn credit in their WHFC youth account that they can apply towards reducing the cost of upcoming WHFC teen events.

We don't want any teen to pass up an opportunity to be involved in Teen activities because of a lack of funds. With the Car Wash Marathon and the Youth Dinner Theater, we provide opportunities for them to earn credit in their WHFC youth account toward future WHFC teen events. Another big fund raiser for ambitious teens who are willing to work hard is Rent-a-Teen. If you need yard work done, mulch spread, spring cleaning tackled or an attic cleaned out or similar such "can't do it by myself" chores, this is your opportunity to get some energetic and agile help. |
Or, if you just have a heart to help needy teens attend events where they can hear the gospel and fellowship with friends who are going to help them stay on the straight and narrow path, then fill out a Rent-a-Teen form or call the church office.
Each summer, the youth go to camp joining with other teens from Evangelical Friends Churches for a time of learning embellished with music, fun, and yes, quiet time to reflect on how to apply what they are learning to their lives.

In 2009 and 2010, the teens attended The Alive Festival which, now in its 23rd year, is one of the nation's largest contemporary Christian music festivals. This year Alive is moving to a new location at Atwood Lake Park near Mineral Springs Ohio.

One of the goals of the youth team is to develop a heart of compassion in the teens for those who struggle for things the teens can take for granted. They are encouraged to give of their time and energy to help those less fortunate on summer mission trips. As part of this, they are encouraged to reflect on the potential of their one life to make an impact on another life and even on the world. On a three year rotation, the Seniors (teens entering 9th grade through 12th grade) go to Camp Barnabas, DCLA, and a selected mission field. In recent years that selected mission field has included serving the poor in Jamaica and ministering in Mexico. In 2010, the mission field will be at Camp Barnabas where the teens will take care of a handicapped camper 23 out of 24 hours a day. |

Would you like to learn to quilt? The WHFC Quilt Guild is hosting a Teen Quilt Camp and if you are a teen entering 6th grade through 12th grade you are invited to attend. At the camp, you will learn basic quilting skills and create your own quilt. There is a mandatory kick-off Fabric meeting on June 12th for all participants in the Teen Quilt Camp. At this meeting you will receive the quilt camp supply list with items you will need for camp, fabric requirements plus helpful fabric purchasing information.

Special EventsFor one time events, such as Alive09 Festival, Winter Jam, Indians Bleacher Blast or Indians Faith Night, we will sometimes gather a group of teens together and buy discounted tickets. Other times we have the opportunity to host some nationally known groups such as Mason & Ramsey Comedy Expedition, Family Force 5 or the David Crowder Band. We also plan some inexpensive fun by hosting digital scavenger hunts or going sled riding. Check out the theParentLink newsletter for what is happening in the upcoming month. |
