Friends Church named one of America's Fastest-Growing Churches
Willoughby Hills Friends Church has been named one of America’s Fastest Growing Churches in 2012 by Lifeway Research in Outreach Magazine’s 100 Largest & Fastest-Growing Churches annual list.
While four Ohio churches made the list, Friends Church is the only representative from Northeast Ohio.
Founded in 1883 as First Friends, Cleveland, the congregation moved to the suburb of Willoughby Hills in 1965. In 2013 they will celebrate 130 years of ministry in the Cleveland area. Knowing that churches with such long histories often struggle to remain relevant, Friends Church has spent the last year refocusing and developing its vision.
Under the leadership of Senior Pastor Kevin Young, the church has experienced a resurgence of spirit, focus, and passion for the community. Friends Church strongly emphasizes participation in the local community and surrounding culture.
Pastor Kevin Young says, "We believe that our primary responsibility as a church is to live God's love by serving all people. And our best example of a servant's life is Jesus Christ himself. We believe in the power of truth that measures, faith that transforms, service that impacts, and love that accepts."
Friends Church has seen incredible growth not only in weekend attendance but also in all measurable areas of ministry. Says Pastor Young, "God is doing something extraordinary here and we believe that God has even greater things ahead. The best is yet to come!"
Weekend gatherings happen on Saturdays at 5:30pm and Sundays at 9:30 and 11:00am. The church also has a thriving spiritual growth-based small group ministry as well as a passion to go and serve in the community.
